VHN - Very High Needs

NorthAble supporting people leaving school with very high disability needs

 

 

VHN is a tailor-made plan, built for supporting you to participate more in your community. If you were assessed at school as Very High Needs under the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS) you may be able to access this service.

 

 

 

​Who can get VHN?
  • You were verified under ORS as very high needs and are aged 16-64
  • You've left school, not currently at work or not ready for work
  • You're currently living in New Zealand, NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • You did not undertake a formal deinstitutionalisation process (Whaikaha support you).

Our Process

Our team at NorthAble will create an ongoing plan with you which is based around your needs. It is regularly reviewed to support you to have a fulfilling life and live their preferred life. NorthAble will support the activities you like, set new goals, expand your horizons and try new things.

How you can use it:

  • Develop skills for daily living
  • Make a contribution with voluntary work
  • Participate in your culture
  • Take part in work experience
  • Create friendships and social and support networks
  • Identify employment opportunities
  • Gain and maintain paid employment or self-employment
  • Achieve valued roles such as student, teacher, teammate, parent, spokesperson,
  • Work-related skills training

What it doesn't cover

  • Activities outside of New Zealand
  • Employment/Volunteering fully funded elsewhere
  • Groceries
  • Professional Health Services
